The more you expect, the more you get.
If you understand what this principle truly means, you will never live your life in the same, limited way again.
How can I say this with such confidence?
Because I’ve done the same in my life.
By expecting more, I have gotten more. WAY MORE than what conventional logic dictates is possible.
And you can create the same results. At the end of this email, you’ll know exactly how.
The Secret of Achievers:
They dream big. REALLY BIG.
But that’s not really a secret, is it? Because all of us dream big. As kids, we’re hardwired to do that. Our imagination will take us from being a doctor one second to an astronaut the other—all without a single thought of, “Is it possible?”
The secret of achievers is that they’re still a child.
They don’t ask, “Is it possible?” They just assume it is and get going. Instead of waiting around for the world’s approval, they make decisions that seem wild to others but are perfectly aligned with them and their goals.
And they get that level of confidence because instead of replacing their wild imagination with adult logic, they have COMBINED both to not only dream the extraordinary but do it as well.
And that’s the skill we need to learn: dreaming the unreasonable and doing the extraordinary.
The first step on that road is…
Mastering Expectations:
How many times have you heard people say, “Pressure makes me perform.”?
When they have time, they’ll do everything EXCEPT finishing the project, submitting the assignment, or preparing for the exam. But the moment they get dangerously close to the deadline, something awakens within them.
A whole new person takes birth, and over the next twelve, twenty, or thirty hours, they are more productive than God himself. Their focus is sharper than a laser, and the phone they were ‘addicted’ to just one night ago now lies deserted and useless.
Why is that?
Simple. These people believe, “Pressure makes me perform.”
So, until the pressure isn’t holding a knife against their throat, they don’t move. There’s no thrill. There are no expectations. And there’s no performance.
But the moment that kicks in, they turn into an achievement beast.
The most successful people in the world have learned how to tame and control this beast. That’s how they CONSISTENTLY produce extraordinary results.
Instead of relying on external deadlines to put the pressure of performance on them, they have learned how to set expectations in such a way that every single day, they’re beating the odds.
Just like us, they also hear about the slim chances of success: “Only 6.5 percent of people clear this exam. Only 1 percent of people can become billionaires. Only a few are lucky enough to break into the Olympics. Becoming successful at 70 is impossible. Becoming rich at 20 is crazy.”
But unlike us, they don’t say, “Oh, that’s too bad. I don’t know if I’ll be able to do it. Let me aim for something more manageable.”
They say, “Cool. So how can I be one of the 6.5%?”
Instead of letting the odds scare them, they just make that big goal non-negotiable.
As a result, they start to expect high performance from themselves. They hold that vision of succeeding and boil it down to today. They think, “What will bring me closer to that goal?” They set unreasonable targets and push their capability to the edge.
And guess what happens? THEY MAKE IT!
There are failures, detours, and challenges on the way, but they MAKE IT HAPPEN.
Why?
They mastered the art of expecting more, turned pressure into fuel, and focused on the possibility, not the limitation.
My question to you is, “What are you really doing?”
I know the pressure is high. But are you rising with it, or crumbling under it?
Because if you really want that goal, that job, that spot on the sports team, that high score, or that breakthrough as an artist, and you know the odds are low, then is crumbling even an option for you to consider?
That’s the mindset shift you need. (Even if it’s a bit harsh.)
The Truth About Burnout.
I can already predict the next limitation running through your head.
“Prabhsimrat, all that makes sense, but if I constantly push myself for high performance, won’t I burn out?”
You want the truth?
You’re already burning out. With every single day that passes, the lit wick is burning away a little bit of the candle you call life.
The question isn’t whether you’ll burn out or not. You most definitely will. The real question is, how will you burn out—with regrets, or with incredible dreams that you chased?
The choice is yours. I won’t force it on you. If you want the slow, simple, ordinary life, go for it. But if you have big dreams, then honestly, burnout should be the last of your worries.
And I’m not the only one saying this. In 1908, the English Author Arnold Bennett published the book, “How to Live on 24 Hours a Day.”
Just like the title, the book is also straightforward. In it, he mentions, “One of the chief things my typical man has to understand is that the mental faculties are capable of a continuous hard activity; they do not tire like an arm or a leg. All they want is change – not rest, except in sleep.”
Said simply, your capacity is way higher than whatever you are expecting right now.
And the simplest way to increase your performance (and chances of success) is to expect more from yourself.
That’s how I’m now able to write and edit an article in forty-five minutes, prepare a sales pitch in less than an hour, deliver speeches instantly without a moment’s hesitation, or write a book in fifteen days.
All these feats aren’t the result of inherited talent. That’s just what happens when you consistently expect more from yourself.
I’m still learning how to master this, and from today onwards, I would be glad if you joined in too.
Because it’s time to make you successful!
