“Happiness is when what you think, what you say and what you do are in harmony.”

—Mahatma Gandhi

Do you think that we all want happiness? Yes, you know that. But, do you think that we’re all happy? You’re unsure.

We all seek happiness, we all want happiness, but we don’t know how to do that. We consider happiness to be something that we can achieve. However, it is something that we live. It is something that we breathe, and it is something that we think. In short, we are happiness.

When we seek happiness, we are seeking ourselves. It sounds crazy, right? It is common to hear, “I am not happy.” But it is not common to hear, “I am not myself.” It would be foolish to seek and want to become someone we already are. But it isn’t so foolish in reality, because we don’t know who we are.

The answer to, “Who am I?”

Last night before sleeping, I wrote, “Reality isn’t always materialistic.” And then I thought, “So are we.” And simply smiled. It was a beautiful moment – a moment of happiness, joy, and peace. There was nothing special about it. It was just a thought, but it was a happy one. I became happiness at that moment because I embraced myself and my true identity. This thought did not come from the prefrontal cortex that resided in my brain; it came from my consciousness. We are not limited to the physical and material portion of us – we are beyond that.

Finding the answer to the question, “Who am I?” can be tricky, so let’s begin from the very basic.

The most basic identity that we have is, “I am this mind that resides in the top of my head in an organ called the brain.” This feels very convincing because it seems that most of our thinking and decision making happens here. If the brain were our life, then it should have been able to live and survive independently, but it can’t. If we remove the brain from our body, it won’t function. This option is out.

The second (and the most common) identity we have is, “I am this body and all of these organs.” Well, this option is straightaway out of the competition. We don’t cease to exist if our leg gets cut off or our liver goes bad because we can always replace them. We can even replace the heart, the most vital organ of our body. We are not the body because it can be assembled, disassembled, and replaced repeatedly, but we stay the same.

Now the materialistic and physical world is out of the league, and confusion is inside. If we are not this body and this brain, then who are we?

If we look at ourselves at the smallest level, we will find that we are made up of atoms. Atoms join together to form molecules. Molecules join together to form cells. Cells join together to form tissues. Tissues join together to form organs. Organs come together to form organ systems, and these systems then create us— our physical body. At the heart of our existence, atoms are present. And what allows atoms to survive and create new elements and things? Energy. Every atom has energy that enables it to vibrate. This vibration allows it to move, and this movement is what creates the whole universe, our earth, our solar system, the milky way, bacteria, fungi, and us. We are energy.

If we are energy and the universe is also made of energy, then are we the same as the universe? Yes, we are. We are the universe because we are energy and the universe is energy. When we understand this concept and allow energy to define us, we become one with the universe and everyone. Energy is the core of existence itself.

This is our true identity that lies above all that is physical. That is why reality is not always materialistic. Reality is energy, and that is who we are.

How does our identity affect our happiness?

Now that we know who we truly are, it is important to understand its link with our happiness. The answer is nothing but simple logic.

Everything from the giant universe to the tiniest bacteria is energy: Existence itself is energy. We know that happiness exists, sorrow exists, grief exists, joy exists, peace exists, love exists, care exists, responsibility exists, and almost all emotions exist. Now, if they exist, they must be energy, right? Yes, they are energy because existence is energy. We are also energy, and therefore, we are happiness, we are sorrow, we are grief, we are joy, we are peace, we are love, we are care, and we are responsibility. Each of these emotions has energy that vibrates at different frequencies – that is at different speeds, and we simply need to choose which frequency we wish to match with; we need to put out that intention and receive the same energy in return.

How to embrace happiness?

All you need to do to embrace happiness is accept it. You are energy, and happiness is energy, which means you are the same as happiness, and you need to accept this identity. When you say to yourself, “I am happiness” and smile brightly with gratitude, you go into the state of acceptance and put out the intention to match your frequency with the frequency of happiness, and that is what you get. It is as simple as that.

So, to be happy, you need to change your identity and accept happiness. For which you can do three things:

  1. Simply smile every time possible, and you will start to see a difference in the joy, happiness, and peace you feel inside.
  2. Set out a specific time to consciously embrace all these positive feelings and to give out your intention of accepting them. Whenever you wake up, do this simple activity for five minutes before getting out of your bed. Sit straight, close your eyes, smile brightly and say a big “Thank You” with heartfelt gratitude. Then, smile continuously and say, “I am Happiness. I am Joy. I am Peace. I am Love” and whatever else you want to say. Put out the intention to match your energy with all these emotions, feel them, and become them. Do this before going to sleep at night as well, and you will naturally attract all these beautiful versions of yourself!
  3. Repeat this cycle of acceptance and smiling anytime and anywhere you get an empty time block. Do this consciously, and soon acceptance will become a part of you, and you will become happiness!

Remember, you are energy, the universe is energy, happiness is energy, and everything is energy. Therefore, you are the same as everything else, and you will become everything you want to!
